Save Rock before Britney Spears Destroys It
What has happened to all the Rock. For the 3rd time in as many weeks I made my way over to the billboard.com website and was unpleasently surprised by the lack of rock genre’d tunes on the top 50. I mean the top ten has none at all and th closest thing that comes to rock on the bottom half of the countdown is “Gotta Be Somebody” by Nickelback and “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay (which by the way, you know how i know your gay?…you listen to coldplay) If those two songs are the best performing rock songs in the eyes of music listeners these days please shoot me in the face. Why is it that back in the day small rock bands had their careers made or broken by the charts and it was an honour to have your songs at #1. Why is it that trainwrecks like Britney Spears can enter the billboard charts at #1 even though she could probably be diagnosed clinically mentally retarded. People need to wake up and realize the effort and passion it takes to write a great track instead of one that is half profanity and half computer generated drum beats. I’m not sure if its a problem with the charts or with the people listening to the music or if it’s that people who listen to rock generally don’t care enough to vote or spread the word which i could understand. All i know is that when i’m older and have kids, i don’t know how impressed i’ll be when my kids are asking me who TI, Ne-Yo, or Katy Perry is as opposed to Led Zeppelin, Pink Foyd, or the Beatles. Please save Rock before Britney Destroys it!
